In addition to informing, directing and selling, signs can produce amazing results. In one Georgia bakery, they serve to inspire, promote employment and make a difference in the community.
Michael Kohler, co-owner of Special Kneads and Treats bakery, approached Kareen and Edward MacFarlane of FASTSIGNS of Snellville, about door graphics four years ago. The MacFarlanes, along with their creative team, helped Michael with a more comprehensive plan to re-create his logo so it was usable for signage solutions. This fully-branded plan included Custom Menu Boards, vehicle graphics, sidewalk signs, blade signs for the exterior and a monument refresh.
Throughout the project’s process, Kareen and Edward learned more about the mission behind this inspiring bakery. Michael, along with his wife, Tempa, started the bakery in 2013 as they had been deciding how to help their son, Bradley, who was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome in 1997.
Fragile X syndrome is an inherited condition characterized by an X chromosome that is abnormally susceptible to damage, especially by folic acid deficiency. It causes a range of developmental problems including learning disabilities and cognitive impairment. Usually, males are more severely affected by this disorder than females.
Unsure of the future for Bradley once he turned 22 and aged out of county supported programs, they were looking for answers and employment options for their son. Out of necessity and the desire to help their child, Special Kneads and Treats bakery was born with the mission to create jobs for Special Needs adults.
“We love their cause and want to support them in any way we can,” said Kareen MacFarlane, owner at FASTSIGNS of Snellville.
The two entities have formed a great relationship in which they now refer clients to each other. Never underestimate the power of a sign. Signage has the ability to support those in the community and inspire others as Special Kneads and Treats bakery continues to create more opportunities for Special Needs Adults.
