In 2018, UMass Cancer Walk came to FASTSIGNS® of Worcester, MA with a new project: to showcase pediatric cancer patients in an environment that reflected the children’s dreams for their future. A local photographer was hired to photograph the children in their chosen career field and FASTSIGNS® of Worcester, MA donated signs and frames to showcase these.
The frames were placed along a walk route for supporters to be inspired, knowing the young lives that would be touched and the children who would grow up to live their dreams due to the medical care they received. FASTSIGNS® of Worcester, MA also donated a poster for each child to keep with their photograph of them in their dream career. The images were kept secret and unveiled the day of the walk.
“It was difficult to see so many young children with long and scary medical diagnoses after their names,” said Denise Carr, owner at FASTSIGNS® of Worcester, MA. “Most (but not all) medical terms were followed by the word, ‘Survivor,’ so we knew these kids would be alright. Their dreams for their future were truly inspiring.”.png)
Since 1999, thousands of people come together in September on the campus shared by UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial to show their commitment to the fight against cancer. The money raised supports adult and pediatric cancer research and care, and clinical trials of new potentially life-saving therapies taking place in Central Massachusetts.
